How to Enable Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

This article describes how to set up Multi-factor authentication (MFA).

MFA is a multi-step account login process that requires users to enter more information than just a password. For example, along with the password, users might be asked to enter a code from an authentication app, click a link sent to their email or answer a secret question.

If you don't already have one, you will need to install an authentication app on your phone for MFA. If your institution already utilizes an application for multi-factor authentication, you should utilize that specific application. If you don’t already have an authentication app, we’ve included a list of recommended authentication apps below.

  1. Once the app is installed, you’ll use the authentication app to add an account.
  2. Follow the instructions to scan the QR code on the Benchworks MFA Setup page.
  3. Once the account is added in your app, click the button I’ve added Benchworks to my MFA App
  4. When prompted by Benchworks, please enter the code generated by your authentication app. MFA is now enabled on your account.

To access Benchworks, you will now need to enter your password and provide a code from your authentication app. This added security measure ensures a more secure login process.

If your institution has implemented multi-factor authentication, you will be prompted to this screen during your initial login. Additionally, we will send you an email notification once MFA is enabled, allowing you to conveniently complete the setup process.

After being redirected to the setup page, use your authentication app on your phone to scan the QR code. Once you have successfully added Benchworks to your authentication app, click on the "I've added Benchworks to my MFA" button.

Input the code that is shown in your authentication app and click on the submit button.

If the setup process is successful, you will be directed to a confirmation page where you can easily click to return to the home page. In the event that the setup process is unsuccessful, you will be taken back to the beginning to scan the QR code again.

Upon request from your institution, your Benchworks account has been enabled with multi-factor authentication. This may have been instigated by you or another user at your institution. When you log into Benchworks next, you'll be required to set up multi-factor authentication.

If your institution requires an authentication app to be used for other systems and software, you can use it to log into Benchworks. If you haven’t installed an authentication application, we’ll suggest several options during the setup process. Once the process is complete, you’ll be prompted to enter a code from that application after entering your password.

We understand that increasing security requirements can be frustrating so you may want to log in when you have a free moment to ensure that you’re ready to successfully log in the next time you need to launch a survey or find needed data.

Thanks,

The Benchworks Team
