Custom vs. Customization - What is the difference?

In this article, we will explore the distinction between requesting complimentary customization for a national assessment and investing in a fully tailored custom assessment.

Complimentary Customization for National Assessments

For basic customization, you have the option to make slight edits to the standard national assessment questions. You can request to edit or hide up to twenty (20) questions per assessment.

Contact support to request the survey outline. To ensure that we can clearly see your proposed edits/changes, we kindly request our clients to use the "track changes" feature on the document. If your edits cannot be accommodated, we will promptly inform you and provide alternate recommendations. Once we have made the necessary edits on our side, you will have the opportunity to review the questions with the changes in place before your launch date. To do this, simply click on the link provided on the setup page, either on the survey outline or printable survey.

Client's Ability to Make Changes

  • Token replacement  (if applicable in survey setup)
  • Removable questions  (if applicable in survey setup)
  • Manually add your own 20 Institution Specific Questions (ISQS) These appear only at the end of the assessment.

Complimentary Customization Guidelines (by request)

  • Find and replace wording within the questions on the survey
  • Hide answers to a question
  • Hide a single question
  • Hide entire section of questions
  • Hide section headings
  • Edit question text as long as it doesn’t change the meaning of the question (requires approval)
  • Edit the text of an answer as long as it doesn’t change the meaning of the answer (requires approval)
  • Edit the survey title
  • Edit coding/unit/population wording (Area, Hall, Floor, Population, etc.)

There are changes that cannot be made to a national assessment and require custom work. If your requests fall into these categories, please contact support for custom pricing.

  • Adding answers to a question
  • Adding questions mid-survey to the national survey. Any additional questions must be asked as ISQs (20 Institution Specific Questions). ISQs follow the national assessment questions and are entered by the client.
  • Break a single question into multiple questions
  • Merge multiple questions into a single question
  • Change the order of questions

Custom Assessment

Any customization of the assessment that involves more than twenty (20) changes or non-standard reporting requests will be considered a custom assessment. Custom assessments do not include comparative data. This will require a consultation and will be subject to an additional cost. Our team will work with you on survey development, survey setup, launch assistance, and a reporting walkthrough. However, please note that this does not cover comparative analysis or the transfer of your custom data into our national database. If you would like to use a custom assessment and still receive some comparative analysis, please contact our staff for pricing and project scope information. Feel free to reach out to our support team for more details.
